Calaca Mamas was established by siblings Angela and Mariam El Haj, who hail from a family deeply rooted in the Southern California restaurant scene. Their journey in the culinary world began during their early years, as they contributed to their parents’ restaurant ventures. Over time, their roles evolved, but their unwavering passion for uniting people and families over delectable food endured.
Initially, when they acquired the venue, they saw its potential but struggled to pinpoint the right concept. It was then that they realized their dream of crafting a truly unique establishment was within reach. Determined to create something that resonated with them personally, they outlined several core themes: family, comfort, authentic ingredients, culinary excellence, sustainability, enjoyment, a distinctive ambiance, positivity, and inviting libations.
With this checklist in mind, the sisters embarked on a mission to fulfill their vision and address the needs of the Anaheim community. Soon after, Calaca Mamas Cantina was born, paying homage to a cherished culture and celebrating the vibrant traditions of “Día de los Muertos” that have always held a special place in their hearts.
